Overview
Ancient Greek sculpture has influenced the work of many revolutionary artists, including Picasso, Brancusi and Henry Moore.
Understand why with this fascinating look at the history of an extraordinary artistic tradition. Join Greek expert and sculptor Byron Comninos to trace the evolution of Greek stone carving from Cycladic sculptures (which appear strikingly modern), to the iconic Archaic styles and Classical work of the fifth century, as well as the magnificent Hellenistic sculptures that flourished after the death of Alexander the Great.
This lecture also explores the sub-genre of Ancient Greek marble sculpture, and discusses the famous Parthenon sculptures - controversially housed within the British Museum - and their restoration in recent decades.
