Overview
Thousands of years of the pharaohs in Egypt came to an abrupt end when Egypt was conquered by Roman forces in 30 BCE, and became a province of the newly formed Roman Empire in 27 BCE.
Still, that was not the end of the story. How Egyptians formed a nation again, restoring their own language and traditional values, is a fascinating tale that is intertwined with the emergence of the world’s first major Christian population and the birth of medieval monasticism.
Join Egyptologist Dr Bill Manley for a less known journey through the history of Egypt that takes in the iconic temples of Luxor, the magnificent White Monastery at Sohag, the ages-old martyrs’ churches of the Nile Delta, and even the south of France.
