Overview
An artist of colour, light and life, Ethel Carrick's bold and evocative paintings capture the genteel gardens of Paris, the harsh light of Australia and the buzzing bazaars of North Africa.
Born in Britain in 1872, Ethel Carrick was a truly transnational artist, painting in France as well as Australia after her marriage to noted Australian artist, Emanuel Phillips Fox.
Join Anne Harbers for a delightful lecture which celebrates the work of a forward-thinking artist who broke new ground in the early twentieth century. This lecture locates Ethel Carrick in her fascinating social, cultural and historical contexts, and also discusses the first retrospective of her work in nearly half a century, currently on display at the National Gallery of Australia.
