Overview

Florence is famous as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance - but in the 1950s, it was also where Italian high fashion was born.

Join fashion historian Dr Anna Lebovic to discover why Florence was the fertile soil which launched iconic fashion giants Gucci, Pucci and Salvatore Ferragamo, and how their dazzling international success not only helped a shattered Italian economy rebuild after World War II, but also upended the strict hierarchy of the fashionable world.

This lecture also explores the genesis of Italy's first fashion show - held in Florence's spectacular Sala Bianca - and how it redefined the city as a leading centre of style.
