Overview

Inspired by the idiosyncratic light and colour of the water that encompasses the city, the artistic creativity of Venice remains unparalleled throughout the centuries.

These artistic achievements can be found throughout Venice in churches, palazzi, and administrative buildings. But they are most magnificently showcased in several beautifully maintained museums and galleries.

Join Tom Abbott for a visually magnificent lecture which explores the Venetian art of three of major Venetian galleries. A consideration of the Galleria di Accademia is included, which houses a spectacular collection of Venetian art from the medieval period to 1800 (including works by Giorgione, Bellini, Tizian and others). The breathtaking Ca d‘Oro collection is also considered, which is renowned for the magnificent "Annunciation" by Carpaccio. Finally, the Ca‘Rezzonico - which boasts riches from the world of 18th century Venice, including Tiepolo frescos and Rosalba Carrera pastel portraits - is examined.
