Overview

Katherine is remembered as the discarded first wife of Henry VIII, but there is far more to her intriguing story.

Born during a military campaign, Katherine was every inch the daughter of Isabella of Castile - Spain's warrior queen - and it seemed she was destined to battle her entire life. Her first marriage to Prince Arthur, heir of the Tudor King Henry VII, ended with his untimely death after just six months of marriage, and Katherine subsequently spent years locked in a struggle with Henry VII and his
advisors to marry the remaining Tudor heir, Prince Henry.

Katherine emerged victorious and in 1509, Katherine and Henry VIII were crowned together, destined to usher in a golden age. Katherine was universally loved, but her world was shattered when after almost two decades of marriage, Henry fell in love with another woman.

In part one of a fascinating six-part lecture series on the six wives of Henry VIII, join Dr Lauren Mackay for a refreshing reappraisal of Katherine, whose unshakeable belief in her destiny as Queen of England saw her defy a King, and would forever change the political and religious landscape of England.
