Overview
In the early twentieth century, the magnificent French Riviera – also known as the Cote d’Azur – was a hub of creativity for many modern artists.
Drawn to the region’s fabled light and colour, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Pierre Bonnard, Fernand Léger and Pierre-Auguste Renoir were all inspired to produce some of the world's most famous paintings.
Join Lydia Bauman, an art history lecturer and guide at The National Gallery in London, for a mesmerising look at their vivid work. This lecture also provides an intriguing exploration of the unique circumstances that led these artists to converge on the magnificent Mediterranean coastline at a pivotal moment in their artistic careers.
