Overview
Medieval Japan saw power concentrated in the hands of the great military leaders, the Shoguns. The greatest of these was Tokugawa Ieyasu - whose imprint on the history of this extraordinary island nation is without equal.
Join Judy Tenzing for a fascinating immersion in the history of the Tokugawa shogunate, who emerged from the fires of endless battles for supremacy. Yet under their greatest leader - Tokugawa Ieyasu - the dynasty would secure a remarkable period of stability and seclusion, during which Japanese tradition and culture flourished for over two centuries.
Your Expert lecturer
After graduating in Indian History, Judy Tenzing returned to India to travel, study and ultimately work as a tour guide. Living in the great subcontinent for over a decade and continuing to travel there for over 35 years has afforded Judy both a theoretical and hands-on knowledge of the history and cultures of this extraordinary country. The Mughal Empire has always been one of her passions, along with the British Raj which succeeded it, and her understanding of these periods has led to a clear grasp of Indian in the modern era. Judy takes pride in keeping up her scholarship in this field as new perspectives emerge on eras and figures of the past - such as the new views on Aurangzeb.
