Overview
Dedicated to rescuing at-risk monuments and artworks in Venice, the Venice in Peril Fund was the first international body created to preserve the floating city’s unique cultural heritage.
Founded in the wake of the catastrophic floods of 1966, after an appeal by UNESCO and the Italian State, the UK based charity can now count over 80 completed projects - ranging from illuminated manuscripts to entire churches.
Join Venetian local Dr Susan Steer, who represents and oversees the Venice operations for the London-based charity, for a fascinating lecture which explains the challenges facing the city, and also highlights the organisation's key restoration projects - including its many famous monuments and significant but less well-known sites - as well as its research and training initiatives.
